If you want to maintain the spirit of faith, you’ll will have to learn how to quit considering the natural impossibilities that might be piling up around you this very moment. God is not sweating them, so neither should you.
In the Old Testament Young David’s attitude was quite different than his brothers when dealing with Goliath. He said to Saul: “The Lord that delivered me out of the paw of the lion , and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.” (1 Sam 17:37 KJV) You see David’s confidence was in the covenant of the Lord and in his God! David kept his eyes on the Word of God.
Proverbs reminds us, “ Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.” (Prov 3:5 AMP)
Right now you may be thinking, I really want to do that. I want to walk and talk by faith. The problem is, every time I look at the mess I’m in, I get discouraged! Then stop looking at that mess! Instead, focus your attention on the promise of God. Keep His Word in front of your eyes and in your ears until you can see it coming to pass with the eyes of your spirit.
That’s what the spirit of faith does. It looks not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. Of course, I’m not saying you should ignore your problems or close your eyes to them as if they aren’t real. They are real. But according to the Word they are temporal, that means “subject to change.” And you can be assured that if you keep looking at what the Word says, they will change! Just keep your eyes on the Word!
So in light of the day in which we find ourselves let me share this promise of God. For the last 45 days dear Christians you have had to push against a sea of fear. America and the world has been dealing with a new virus. As a result we have watched our world shut down by the fear of this virus. It might be a new thought for some of you but God has deal with plagues before, this is not a new thing. It might have caught us by surprise but nothing ever catches God by surprise! As a matter of fact God has already judged this plague and it is written in his book (the Bible).
So here is the promise I have been talking about. In this promise he has told us what to do, what to believe and how to keep ourselves safe. Are you interested? Here it is:
91:1 HE WHO dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand].
2 I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust!
3 For [then] He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence.
4[Then] He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings shall you trust and find refuge; His truth and His faithfulness are a shield and a buckler.
5 You shall not be afraid of the terror of the night, nor of the arrow (the evil plots and slanders of the wicked) that flies by day,
6 Nor of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor of the destruction and sudden death that surprise and lay waste at noonday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you.
8 Only a spectator shall you be [yourself inaccessible in the secret place of the Most High] as you witness the reward of the wicked.
9 Because you have made the Lord your refuge, and the Most High your dwelling place,
10 There shall no evil befall you, nor any plague or calamity come near your tent.
11 For He will give His angels [especial] charge over you to accompany and defend and preserve you in all your ways [of obedience and service]. AMP
Verse 1 is the “qualifier” for all the blessings that follow this verse. The “Secret place” is our relationship with the Lord. All of our blessings flow from that relationship and your faith and confidence in God flows from that relationship. If that is so then a good question to ask yourself, how is my relationship with the Lord? Do I keep myself fed with the Word of God? How’s my Prayer life? Am I being moved by faith, hope and love or am I being moved by fear, guilt and strife?
Now if you see some things that you need to change then just repent, ask God for his help and get your eyes on his mercy for you. I love the picture the Psalms gives us here in this passage in verse 3 “ He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings shall you trust and find refuge; His truth and His faithfulness are a shield and a buckler.
This verse pictures the Ark of the Covenant which was the mercy seat in for the Old Testament people. For the New Testament people under the New Covenant our ark is the precious blood of Jesus that purchased our redemption. On the basis of Jesus blood Paul reminds us “We are redeemed from the curse of the broken law” glory to God! So now we look to Jesus and his salvation which includes deliverance and healing!
I’ll end with the last part of Psalms 91. Let this be your confidence instead of all the news reels of fear.
“Because you have made the Lord your refuge, and the Most High your dwelling place,
There shall no evil befall you, nor any plague or calamity come near your tent. For He will give His angels [especial] charge over you to accompany and defend and preserve you in all your ways [of obedience and service].
Guess what? Our Angels are busy and we are protected, Glory to God! We are protected because God is faithful to his Word. So Keep your eyes on the Word of God!
